Projects

The association produces major projects in partnership with other galleries and exhibition venues in Zagreb (Mimara Museum, HDLU, the Croatian Academy Glyptotheque) as well as in other cities in Croatia, and beyond its borders.  Among these the most long-lasting are, with its forty year tradition, ZGRAF – the International Exhibition of Graphic Design and Visual Communications, and the Zagreb Salon, a national review that is devoted every third year to the applied arts and design. Both events have through their history carved out a places for themselves as a platform for the promotion of new or the testing out of existing concepts in the domain of the applied arts and design, always giving rise to heated arguments and drawing the attention of society.

Zagreb Salon

The Zagreb Salon is a prestigious annual exhibition of contemporary visual creative work in the Republic of Croatia that was founded in 1965 by the town council of the city of Zagreb; in the triennial rhythm of the event, the various disciplines alternate.  ULUPUH organises the version of the Salon that is devoted to the applied arts and design.

ZGRAF

ZGRAF is an international event concerned with graphic design and visual communications that since 1975 has been held triennially in Zagreb.    Over the years, it has brought together designers, theorists and critics, with the intention of having the fundamental problems and position of design in contemporary art brought out.   At the same time, through its choice of selectors and its open competition, ZGRAF presents examples of world graphic design, in order to provide as broad and high-quality an insight as possible into the world designer scene, and to put Croatian design products into their context.  ZGRAF endeavours to create a space for a lively discussion about contemporary design practice and its role in the complex and often contradictory cultural quotidian.  www.zgraf.hr

Several years back, these projects were joined by exhibitions and events produced at the initiative of individual departments of the association, with equal ambitions for a long-term existence: annual or biennial reviews of creative work, or dossier exhibitions of given departments

The castle and the sculpture park in Jakovlje

The sculpture park is located 30 km from Zagreb and contains over 60 sculptures from Croatian and international artists. ULUPUH with HDLU (Croatian Association of Artists) owns the place. Together we have started the initiative to clean up the garden and restore the sculptures. For more information about the castle and the park see HERE
